Are you focused on the performance journey?

Journey_ID-10048924It’s said that life is all about the journey.

To people and teams who are committed to performing at their best, this statement is practiced on a daily basis. The truth of the matter is whether you are a high performance athlete or a person working towards achieving a professional goal, many of us lose sight of the performance journey.

My experience has been that people who are relentless in the pursuit of a goal are highly engaged in the process of achieving that goal. They know their best performance comes down to their ability to focus each day on the small actions needed in order to reach their goal. The real challenge is, we live in a culture that has conditioned us to expect quick results, which neglects what really needs to happen in order to achieve rewarding results.

Here are some performance secrets to help keep you focused on your journey.

Performance Framework

Having a performance framework or map will help keep you focused on where you want to go. The necessary steps you need to take, and keep taking in order to achieve your goal are the extensional parts of this framework. One thing to note, this framework will require adjustments, and refinement as you move along your journey.

Intangible Rewards

Very often we only think of the long-term goal, and most of the time this can be a source of frustration. People who realize that it’s all about the journey, set themselves several short-term goals to achieve. Often, they reward themselves for accomplishing these short-term goals, which serves as motivation towards achieving their bigger long-term goals.

Continuous Learner

High-level performers are continuous learners by nature. They always want to learn and discover more about themselves and the people they work with. A desire for continual learning is one of the key reasons they can stay engaged in their performance journey long after others might have given up.

In a culture that promotes instance results and achievement; it’s very easy to lose sight of the fact that great human performance is all about the journey. Staying focused on the journey will ensure that everyone in your organization remains fully engaged in the daily work they do.

All the best in achieving your highest performance.
