Get what you have to get done…and then some

ID-100288828_DONEWhat really makes people and teams perform at their best? Several factors are involved: good talent, great habits, and a performance-based culture. When we read all the literature on human performance and organizational development, we start to establish a greater sense of what really allows these people and teams to perform at their best. The new performance skills and practices being introduced into many organizations are designed to create a high performance cultures, and a more fulfilling workplace for people and teams.

Having the ability to accomplish what really has to be completed can be a real challenge for individuals and teams. There are many distractions for people during the day resulting in lose time and energy, and for the most part, people don’t even realize this happening. Having the ability to say no to the unimportant tasks during our day (and there are several of those), and yes to the things that really matter is critical. Learn this one skill, use it regularly and you will be surprised by how you become more productive and engaged in your daily work.

But how? Well, try these tips and you will be amazed:

Focus: Being very intentional and present ensures you are spending the correct amount of energy and time on the tasks you need to accomplish. Once you say “yes” to what you have to do, become fully focused on the actions needed to carry out that task.

Decisive: Once you say “yes”, commit and carry the task out to completion. Try not to procrastinate, or spend precious time waiting for the perfect conditions (those will never happen). Just get it done quickly and efficiently.

Efficient: Learn to be very efficient with your time and energy. Overly complex processes can slow the best intentions of a high performing culture. If you find this happening seek ways to constantly improve on efficiencies until there are processes in place that are streamlined and effortless.

Start to practice these habits and you will be surprised how well you actually accomplish your required tasks, with extra time and energy left over to attend to those other important duties that always seem to be put off.

All the best in achieving your highest performance.
